RMT Tips: Safe Buying Tips, Gold + Accounts + More

– August 16, 2009Posted in: Misc: RMT, Misc: Tips

Many people have asked why GameTag does not sell virtual in game currency. There are multiple reasons why we don’t but the main reason is we want to focus the vast majority of our time on selling secure virtual accounts and leveling services. We feel that over the course of the next year, we can provide the only exclusive secure service for every account we sell, and will continue to expand on our goals with virtual accounts and leveling.

Now does that mean we will never sell virtual currency? We aren’t sure but what we can say is that we do not support gold farming. Virtual currency farming has been going on for years, but one of the things that have been recently damaging the games have been the constant use of bots, hacks, and macros that are destroying the way we play our games. Though we do not offer virtual currency, we figured we’d give some helpful tips on what you should know before you buy from any merchant to avoid what is happening to our games we play.

Like any other store there are many steps customers should take to protect themselves from fraudulent companies; we have organized our five top rules to follow for you to have a happy experience when buying Gold:

If you heard the term, “RMT” or “Gold Seller” before, it was most likely in a negative context. Many gamers will tell you of their bad experience with buying Gold, either having Gold deleted from their account (by Blizzard), never having their Gold arrive or, in the worst case, having an account stolen. The increase in non-credible companies (due to the industry’s increased success) has lead to the current climate of mistrust between players and the RMT industry.

In 2007, many of the World of Warcraft gamers purchased Gold in exchange for real money. The “Real-Money Trading” industry (also known as RMT) has reacted to this new phenomenon and now hundreds of new RMT companies have been set up.

The reason we have made the time to produce this entry is two-fold. Reason one; we want all players to be educated about RMT purchases. Often, there are too many people who put off purchasing MMORPG services because of outrageous companies who do not comply with gaming standards. Reason Two, we want to show the World the standards that we live by. We have carved a window for being know as the only major American RMT company (with ALL our major competitors based in China or India) by following these guidelines and continuing to delight and please our customers –please view our BizRate ranking here and find out for yourself why we are a great company.

1. Talk to the Experts
You can quickly tell if a company is credible and able to deliver by speaking to their Live Customer Service/Chat Service. Good companies will have their customer service department populated with experienced staff that are knowledgeable about MMORPGs; bad companies will have their customer service outsourced to China or India.

Most representatives you speak to are unwilling to answer general gaming questions, (the type you would use to test someone’s knowledge) and become hostile because of it, it is more than likely they do not know what you or they are saying. If they engage you in conversation and know their stuff, you are better off.

2. Come Gold, Come!
We recommend that you find a North American, European and Australian company to deal with, as this will severely reduce your chances of losing Gold post-trade. You can tell where a company delivers from by talking to their Customer Support; if they sound Indian or Chinese, there is a great chance that they are.
Blizzard attempt to cancel all Gold they believe to have been bought from RMT companies. They use a number of dissimilar systems and metrics to be able to track Gold and RMT companies must be extremely careful to avoid the Blizzard ban-stick.

The rank of the trading character (i.e. the IP address of the account) is the most accepted use factor to ban an account. More specifically, if you have Gold traded to you from an account in India, the Gold will likely be voided within 6 hours. All too often players complain about having Gold voided or deleted from their mailbox or directly from their character soon after it is exchanged to them.

3. Delivery Times-Honestly!
Chinese farming companies built a large database of new customers in 2007 due to their good customer service delivery of instant claims, but their inability to deliver on this promise has left their reputation in pieces and with very few loyal customers.

If buying Gold you should expect to anticipate delivery from 1 to 12 hours, and in some instances up to 48 hours. This is due to the stockpiling issue within World of Warcraft – if a company stores too much Gold on a single account, Blizzard will ban it. Therefore, stock levels need to be kept relatively at bay to avoid huge losses or decline when accounts are restricted or banned.

The biggest risk of the RMT industry is the term “Instant Delivery”. As players demand that Gold be delivered faster and quicker, many leading RMT companies have started advertising “Instant Delivery” of Gold on all servers. Which really means delivery within 30 minutes (stated in the small print) but according to customers, reports would suggest otherwise?

Some companies suggest that you ask a company directly how long Gold will take to be received. If they tell you an estimate between 1 and 12 hours, they are likely a reputable company. If they anticipate a delivery in less than 5 minutes, go on to the next company.

4. When All Else Fails
Can you follow all the rules? Does everything go right at times but still things still go wrong? In this case, you need to be able to get a refund or make the company deliver as promised. Regrettably, the laws of the United States are not universal, so if you purchase from a company half way around the World, you will find it very difficult to request or demand a refund or threaten them with court action.

If you follow these rules, you are much more likely to have a more positive buying experience and will be able to enjoy spending your big pot of Gold. Never leave it up to the chance that everything will go fine –always take measures and steps to protect you from all situations, whether it is positive or negative.

5. Great Customers + Positive Confirm= Credibility
The problem customers often face is whether our endorsements are truthful. Our method to our madness often taught in Sales School is to include customer experiences or testimonials and display the credibility of a company. On a good note, most major RMT companies participate with secure 128 bit certificates such as Thawte (who we currently use) and Verisign (who we have, but currently use Thawte); an independent ranking system that allows users to rate and review companies. Check to see their seals are verified, and if not it doesn’t hurt to ask them to send you a link in case they removed it from their site.

Safe buying starts with knowledge first and that is one of the reasons we focus our time buying and selling wow accounts, ffxi accounts, everquest accounts, and more!
