”Kids and Consumer Electronics II”, a new report release by the research firm NPD Group, refers to “kids” as children age 14 and under, reports that kids are more likely to have a PC over a television set. The survey they conducted polled over 3,500 households of parents of age 25 or higher with children in their household’s ages 4-14 years of age. The children in these homes surveyed were also more likely to own a video gaming console than their own television set as well.
The research also indicated that children ages between the ages of four and fourteen began using consumer electronic devices six months prior to the children of the same age group surveyed the year prior. Handheld gaming devices of the portable sort showed significant growth in usage, and purchase intent with older children in particular.
“Any business that markets or sells products to kids needs to be aware of the role of these CE devices in their lives,” said Anita Frazier, industry analyst, The NPD Group. “Today’s kids are digital natives, whose activities are fundamentally different than previous generations, making the information within this report critical for more effective product development and marketing strategies.”
