WoW News: Faction Restriction on PvP Servers Lifted

Update to the Story Regarding Faction Restriction on PvP Servers Being Lifted

Very large content patches like Patch 3.2, always seem to bring some odd quirks (otherwise known as bugs) along with all their new benefits. In the Patch 3.2 release there seems to be an odd. There is one of the bugs that came along with Patch 3.2 that’s recently been pointed out to us. This bug apparently allows players on PvP servers the ability to create wow characters of the opposing faction on the same realm. If you play on Normal or RP servers, this wouldn’t be anything special, as you’ve already had this feature. But, PvP servers have always had a certain particular restriction that prevents players from having characters from both factions on the same realm. We have never been certain why this is the case, but as usual, Blizzard Entertainment continues to be a strange and unique operation.

We’ve yet to know if this change is intentional in nature or not. If it is in fact an upgrade that is intentional wouldn’t World of Warcraft make a patch note? Perhaps a blue post? Because Blizzard Entertainment hasn’t done either of these things we can’t know for sure. You should expect that realms will undergo some kind of downtime in the future if this is in fact not an upgrade but a mistake. One certainly would think that a change of this significance would warrant a word from Blizzard.

So if you have a beef with some character or players from the opposite faction, now is your chance: have at it! In a forbidden love triangle with that gal from the opposite realm who’s always after you in raids? Go for it now. But remember, Blizzard see’s all and if this is a bug and you play on the wild side be ready for a gold reduction.

Still, a change of this magnitude speaks to me as an intended feature or upgrade. We did have the announcement that there would be upcoming faction changes, is this what they were referring too? And if it is the change they were intending all along, why no official Blizzard word? Now players will be able to switch faction on PvP realms problem free with every WoW account transfer. New realm transfers, no more PvE to PvP restrictions, is it just too good to be true? Will it last? We can’t know for sure, but enjoy it while it lasts.

UPDATE: Blizzard has indeed CONFIRMED the INTENDED FEATURE UPGRADE! There is no longer a faction restriction on PvP realms in preparation for the faction change service, according to Eyonix over at the official forums.
