Some rather old news but World of Warcraft continues to dominate 2009 being the leading sales revenue MMO out there.
January, the first month of the new 2009 year sees an older game still on top to the U.S. PC sales charts. Fourteen months after its introduction, World of Warcraft still reigning as top seller, a complete dominator of the PC game market… The Burning Crusade, the release of Blizzards Entertainments first expansion pack for World of Warcraft, no doubt helped to keep the game in the number one selling spot.
The conservative chart measuring a period immediately after the busiest new release season of the previous year 2008 saw no new entries to the tope ten best sellers list that had no previously held a spot on the coveted list. Re-entering the top ten lists of best sellers was Zoo Tycoon II of the Tycoon series. Battlefield II also released and expansion pack that helped to boost its sale and put the game back into the top 10 sellers list.
Electronic Arts, the company that dominated the top 10 list with the number of entries per manufacturer. Electronic Arts had the games The Sims II and its Nightlife expansion pack, as well as Battlefield II titles on the list of top selling PC games. In second place, runner up on the top 10 list for top manufacturer was behemoth Microsoft Corporation. Microsoft Corp. with its entries Zoo Tycoon and Civilization IV, (which was listed in fourth place on the best selling chart) may likely hold on to the second place manufacturer of these games. But none of the above listed games reached close to the top spot holder Blizzard’s World of Warcraft. The numbers suggest that it is a two to one favorite over the next listed game, enjoying top seller domination.
