DAOC Accounts: Harassment PoliciesHarassment Policy =================
In Dark Age of Camelot, our goal is always to develop a strong group and/or community that provides a comfortable atmosphere for all of our daoc account gamers. What this means is since players have the capability to combat anti-social behavior. Some tools created to make this happen purpose range from the "Ignore Player" option and also the obscenity filter. The "Ignore Player" (/Ignore) option permanently blocks most of an offending player's comments, and you may also decide to block certain offensive words from the DAoC Obscenity Filter.
What's NOT harassment?
First we ought to explain that anything considered a legitimate play style in DAoC isn't considered harassment. Quite simply, gamer killing of one's realm's enemies, such as gravestone camping, isn't considered harassment. By valid, we mean that we now have game mechanics created around these play styles in DAoC. Because DAoC is often a RvR (PvP) game, gamers should seek methods for protecting themselves against these play styles through game mechanics instead of contacting support staff for aid in these cases.
What exactly is considered harassment?
Harassment consists of flagrant misuse and abuse of game mechanics with the intention of distressing and offending other players. So what's a game mechanic? Game mechanics allow players to interact with the world and each other. For example, the ability to block a doorway is a game mechanic. The ability to create macros with large amounts of text is a game mechanic. Use of game mechanics like these is by no means considered harassment in and of itself. The key to determining whether the mechanic is being misused or abused is to determine "intent". What was the person trying to achieve through their actions? Were they purposefully trying to disrupt someone else's game? While an action may cause others distress, it is not considered harassment until it is determined by DAoC CS Staff that it was done to intentionally cause distress or to offend other players.
Also considered as harassment is any behavior that is incessant, inescapable, derogatory and directed specifically at you or your group. An important point to note regarding this type of harassment is that a genuine attempt to alleviate the situation must have been made. This could be an attempt to leave the area or the offending player, or simply the act of asking them politely to stop. If a sincere attempt has been made to solve the problem and the offending player persists in the harassing behavior, it can be considered harassment, and should be reported. For more information, see how do I report harassment below with contains detailed information on reporting as well as what a harassment claim is.
Behavior that is always regarded as harassment consists of derogatory and/or hateful comments that are sexual, racist, religious, or related to gender or creed. Mythic Entertainment has a zero tolerance policy towards harassment of this kind, as stated in our Terms of Service, and violation of the above can result in immediate and permanent account suspension on the first offense.
What exactly comes about when I report harassment?
1. Any time a harassment is reported it's instantly escalated to a server guide or higher, and also is investigated as soon as possible. 2. We'll monitor the actual reported harassing conduct, as well as decide if the harassment report is actually legitimate. 3. You'll be advised on the outcomes from the investigation. 4. When the harassment is legitimate, we'll take suitable disciplinary actions up against the policy violator. 5. Legitimate harassment issues will always be handled with a server lead level or more.
Do you know the penalties for harassment?
Mythic Entertainment condemns all forms of harassment in DAoC, and this type of disruptive behavior will not be tolerated. Harassment is a severe offense in DAoC and a clear violation of the Rules of Conduct and Terms of Service.
If we are about to find clear evidence that you harassed other daoc account members, this may result in penalties added to the harassing party as much as and including immediate daoc account closure without appeal, depending on the seriousness of harassment and also the gamers past daoc account history.
How do you report harassment? Please report harassment using the /Appeal function. In the foreseeable future we'll use a tool for reporting harassing and harmful behavior which will include logging and monitoring chat communications, that will be better for daoc account support to enable us to be able to track down harassment issues.
